If you can read, you can be a reading tutor! We are always looking for people who can impart the gift of literacy to adult learners. Many of our students are seeking their GED or just want to increase their reading skills, but all of them benefit from the time and attention of a reading tutor.
We understand the demands of a busy schedule and the importance of balancing obligations. That’s why we offer flexible tutoring options designed to fit seamlessly into your life. We work closely with you to find the best time and place for your tutoring sessions. We have daytime availability as well as flexible evening and weekend hours at the Literacy Center. Tutors and students are also welcome to choose a different location if that better suits their needs.
Tutors can work one-on-one with students or run a small group for students with similar needs.
We provide training and materials to empower both the tutor and the student to reach their goals.
Volunteer are asked to commit between one to four hours per week with a student, and this time can be split into multiple tutoring sessions per week at the discretion of the tutor and the student.

Description
Founded in 1984, Literacy Volunteers at Centenary College is passionate about promoting literacy in Shreveport and Northwest Louisiana. Our students are from a diverse background with varying needs, but all of them want an education. That's where our tutors come in!
Our Pathways to Literacy program's success is based upon matching tutors and students to meet the unique needs of each individual. We offer programs in Basic Literacy, HiSET test prep in math and reading, and English as a Second Language (ESL). We would love tutors in any category - from someone who can help an adult learn to read to those who could tutor in reading and math for adult learners who are striving toward a GED. Whether you're more comfortable one-on-one or would like to lead a small group, we'd love support your volunteering with literacy in Shreveport. We provide curriculum and training for student and tutor success.
