The SCORE CEO Forum in Palm Beach County is seeking volunteers to help facilitate participant CEO discussions. This is a highly rewarding experience with discussions driven by business leaders who work on tactical and strategic issues in their business. Successful facilitator attributes include: Available: Facilitators must be available on the 3rd Wednesday of each month to attend the forum sessions. A couple of absences a year for vacation/travel are expected and can be covered by the partner meeting leader. Accessible: Participants should view the discussion facilitator as being easy to talk to, accepting, understanding, and empathetic. Good listener: Like counseling, discussion leaders must have very strong listening skills to be able to understand issues and solutions, be able to summarize when necessary, and to understand how to direct the conversation toward valuable conclusions. Non-judgmental: Discussion leaders should have the ability to suggest alternative actions without condemning past actions. Opinions are fine, as long as they are stated in a way that respects the person. Experienced: Facilitators must bring relevant business experience to the program and be able to present that experience to the members in a meaningful way. Forum members look to meeting leaders to add, temper, refine, and summarize comments and ideas based on their business experience or other learnings. The meeting leader should continue to supplement his/her knowledge on an ongoing basis. Facilitation-oriented: Meeting leadership is different from counseling. The meeting leader will add comments but only after the forum members have made theirs. The focus of the meeting leader’s effort should be on facilitation: How should I set the stage for the meeting or the upcoming issue? When should I intervene? When should I redirect the conversation? When do I need to clarify the issues or summarize the situation? Team-oriented: The meeting leader should have experience working in teams or groups, where all input is accepted and solutions are drawn from the combination of ideas presented.
