Remote/home based group coordinators needed for national in-person social activity groups for those aged 75 and over.

What are social activity groups?

A once a month oppertunity for social chit chat, fun and laughter, a chance for someone to get out of the home to reduce and prevent social isolation and loneliness. They're free to attend and open to anyone aged 75 and over. They're at the same community venue and could be anywhere in the UK. There will be volunteer leads running the group and some groups may also have volunteer drivers too, for those unable to attend the group by any other means.

Where does a group coordaintor fit in?
All social activity groups havea group coordinator, this is more of an admin role, with general oversight of the groups. A group coordinator knows who is doing what, who is attending and communicating with new referrals and current attendees. This would suit someone who has some time of around 2-4 hours per month, wishing to do volunteering from home and has a passion for supporting older people to reduce isolation and loneliness, with a sense of fun and trying new things.

No two groups are the same and made of different makeup from the volunteers, to what the group does, to the days and times they run. Some groups we're starting from scratch so we can be more flexible in days and times and others are existing groups or groups about to be up and running so the days and times maybe more fixed.

To become an activity group coordinator, you’ll need to:

  • Have a 30-minute induction call with a member of the Re-engage team
  • Complete an ID check
  • Provide a reference
  • Complete online volunteer training modules

Tasks include:

  • Welcoming and supporting new volunteers into the activity group so they can start volunteering with confidence.
  • Welcoming new older people to the activity group and contacting them before their first activity group so that they feel welcome and comfortable.
  • Arranging the annual activity group schedule so activity group leads know when it’s their turn to lead the activity, and activity group drivers know which older people they’re collecting and dropping home again after the activity group.
  • Matching older people to volunteer drivers, so the same drivers collect and drop off the same older people each month.
  • Responding to any issues and queries from the volunteers and older people in the activity group.
  • Following the guidance in the online volunteer training so that the activity groups are safe, enjoyable, appropriate and in line with our charitable aims.
  • Keeping in regular contact with Re-engage and reporting any concerns to the team.
  • Promoting the activity group in your local area so we can recruit more volunteers and support more older people.
  • Keeping in regular contact with the activity group volunteers and older people and sharing any updates from Re-engage that are relevant to them.
  • Completing a short online report about the activity group four times a year.
  • Keeping your knowledge and training up to date by reading our monthly volunteer newsletter - Re-engage Matters.

Mission Statement

Re-engage provides vital, life-enhancing social connections for older people at a time in their lives when their social circles are diminishing.

Description

As we get older, our social circles diminish, and we find ourselves with fewer and fewer people to turn to. Imagine realising one day that all your friends and family have gone from your life. Loneliness can be cruel, and it affects millions of people over 75 who live in social isolation.

Re-engage is making life less lonely for thousands of older people every year. Older people tell us that our volunteer-led activities make them happier and more able to trust others.
