DID YOU KNOW: Every year, over 120,000 young people in New Jersey turn 18 and become eligible to vote. Help us energize the next generation to participate in our democracy and set them up for a lifetime of civic engagement!

OPPORTUNITY: Energizing Young Voters (EYV), an initiative of the nonpartisan League of Women Voters of New Jersey, is looking for Volunteer Instructors to teach our menu of interactive lessons that motivate and equip students and young adults to vote and take action. We conduct training sessions for volunteers to learn our modules and take them into grade 6-12 classrooms, local colleges, and community organizations with a small group of other instructors.

MISSION & IMPORTANCE: We work to strengthen our democracy by fostering future generations committed to voting and civic engagement. We offer non-partisan, issue-agnostic classroom experiences, voter registration initiatives, and opportunities for leadership development. Since 2019, EYV has remained committed to running our program in schools and community organizations across New Jersey and in 16 other states. We have done this by relying on our group of dedicated Volunteer Instructors.

WHAT YOU'LL GAIN: By volunteering with EYV, you will make connections with fellow kind and passionate volunteers, increase your knowledge about our democracy, develop your presentation and leadership skills, and have fun engaging students in hands-on activities.

HOW TO PARTICIPATE: Join Energizing Young Voters by becoming a Volunteer Instructor!

  • Submit the answers to the application questions and we will reach out to you via email within a week.
  • Attend an introductory welcome meeting. You will meet with a volunteer to learn more about our program and how our modules are delivered.
  • We ask that volunteers commit to attending two training sessions per month over the course of the summer to prepare for the start of the school year. We're happy to work with your schedule! We'll meet in a small group to practice the lessons together and get comfortable presenting.
  • There is ability to grow as a volunteer! Volunteers can spend time attending our monthly EYV Leadership Committee meetings with volunteers from other counties, conduct outreach to expand our program, and continue to participate in training to get better at presenting our modules.
  • We love when young people get involved with presenting to their peers! This is a great opportunity for high school and college students, in addition to adults.
  • Bilingual speakers are highly encouraged to join us! We are in the process of implementing our bilingual program. We are looking for support translating English to Spanish and other languages, as indicated, in communities across the state.
