ORGANIZATION: Compassionate Care Hospice (Amedisys) Bedminster NJ

Do you speak spanish? We have an opportunity with some patients that speak spanish. Can you offer comfort and connection to another Spanish speaker?

As a volunteer in a non-medical support role here are some of the things you could do:

  • Sit beside and offer a calming presence
  • Engage in heartfelt conversations or share quiet silence
  • Read aloud, play music, or share a hobby
  • Provide emotional support to patients and families
  • Offer a hand to hold, a smile or simply be there

If you have a little more time you can do respite care so the caregivers can run errands or rest, maybe a little light tidying up, water the plants, small things that make huge differences. Never under estimate how one hour or more of your time can bring so much joy and comfort to someone on the final journey and their families.

If this sounds like you please click on one of the links and we can tell you more about the roles, the training and all that is involved in becoming an approved volunteer for Compassionate Care Hospice Bedminster. We will welcome you with open arms.

Mission Statement

Amedisys Hospice Care is defined by its mission: To affirm life during its final stages by providing holistic compassionate care to patients and their families; by providing access to hospice care for underserved or difficult to serve populations; by wise and efficient use of available resources, and by educating the community in order to provide them with knowledge regarding end-of-life and hospice care around quality of life.

Description

For patients on hospice care, volunteers play an essential role. Whether they’re simply being present with a patient or helping behind the scenes, volunteers help create trusting bonds and meaningful memories for hospice patients and their loved ones. Just as volunteers are important to hospice patients, hospice patients make service work rewarding for volunteers. Hospice volunteers provide comfort, compassion and care for people as they near the end of life.
