Elliot Key Harbor Host

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Biscayne National Park is offering an exciting Harbor Host opportunity for winter 2025-2026! This position will have a duty station of Elliot Key, which is only accessible by boat. We have limited housing available in exchange for a commitment of 32 hours per week, per person. We're seeking dedicated individuals with a passion for public engagement and marine conservation, eager to work in a dynamic environment covering a wide range of National Park Service departments. Your time will be spread across Park Divisions where you'll have the opportunity to learn various stewardship skills. These include but are not limited to, assisting with interpretive and educational programming, assisting in maintenance tasks, supporting resource management projects, and assisting with a handful of administrative tasks. Note: This is similar to, but not to be described as a Campground Host position.

We’re looking for team players who value professionalism, kindness, and exceptional visitor service. Volunteers must complete the Motorboat Operational Certification Course (MOCC) in order to be eligible for this position. Elliot Key also serves as a popular campground in the park. Harbor Hosts should expect to interact with the public throughout the day. Both couples and individuals are welcome, but all residential volunteers must commit to the 32-hour weekly requirement. Volunteers must be 18 or older. While bilingual (Spanish/English) skills and marine biology are a plus, they are not required. Excellent customer service skills are essential.

Volunteers should be available for weekends, holidays, and night shifts. Training begins in November, with preference given to those able to commit through the entire November-April season. Typical work weeks consist of four consecutive eight-hour days, with weather ranging from hot to cool and the occasional appearance of pesky bugs.
