We're on the lookout for fun, friendly volunteers to help with our remote office (Mon-Fri)!
Us: River West Village is like a neighborhood dream team for older adults in SW Portland. As part of a national Village Movement, we're all about helping folks stay safe, independent, and happy in their own homes - without losing that sense of connection. From lively events to cozy social gatherings, we bring neighbors together, spark new friendships, and make aging-in-place feel a lot more like thriving-in-place.
Responsibilities:
- Monitor incoming requests: Check and respond to all emails and phone messages on your assigned weekday.
- Enter service requests: Log requests into our system and notify volunteers for follow-up
- Build connections: Get to know Village members and volunteers while helping match needs with helping hands
- Flexible time commitment: Weekly workload varies, some weeks may be just 1 hour, others up to 2-4 hours a week
- Make a difference: Play a crucial role in supporting older adults (55+) who want to age safely and independently at home
You:
- Good vibes
- You are part human, part tech support
- Make the world a better place - one unpaid shift at a time
- Copy-paste powers and a strong love for color-coded calendars
Perks:
- Unlimited gratitude
- Bragging Rights
- Cupcakes
- High-fives
Ready to Join the (Not -So=Secret) Mission?
Before you can officially become part of our Village volunteer dream team, there are just a few quick steps to make it all official:
- Confidentiality Agreement: Because what happens in the Village...stays in the Village.
- Background Check: We promise, it's painless - no fingerprints, lie detectors, or spy gear required.
- Volunteer Training: A quick crash course in all things awesome, so you're prepped and ready to help like a pro.
Once those are done, you'll be ready to jump in and make a difference - cape optional, kindness required.

Mission Statement
Villages NW is reshaping the experience of aging. We keep older adults connected and active, contributing members of the community. With 11 neighborhood-based virtual villages, seniors make new friends close to home, participate in online coffees, happy hours and other social activities. We also help each other out when needed with neighbor-to-neighbor home maintenance, yard work and errands.
Description
The Village Movement is a holistic approach to vibrant, healthy aging. It combines a meaningful purpose in life; finding new friends as we begin to lose spouses and see less of long-time friends and neighbors; familiar surroundings; and preserving financial assets against the day when a higher level of care might be necessary. In addition to these quality of life issues, Villages fill gaps in support and services, which enable older adults to live independently.
We have 11 neighborhood-based villages with 600 members and a comparable number of volunteers in the Greater Portland Metro area. About half of our volunteers are also members.
Villagers are members rather than clients. About half volunteer in some way whether it is driving someone to the doctor, doing a little yard work, checking in with a member who is mostly homebound, working on activities or doing Village support.
