Mission Statement

Oregon State Capitol Visitor Services volunteers, age 16 and up, provide friendly, non-partisan service to all who enter the building. Capitol volunteers interact with many visitors including local school children, government leaders, and guests from all over the world.

Description

The Visitor Services Volunteer Program at the Oregon State Capitol has been in existence since 1985. We currently have more than 60 volunteers. Capitol tour guides lead groups from 4th graders to foreign dignitaries, sharing the history of the Capitol and informing guests how they may become involved in the legislative process. Kiosk attendants greet, direct, and provide information. Capitol Store volunteers assist in the retail shop including: cashier, merchandising, and inventory processing. Legislative Ushers serve during legislative sessions in the House and Senate Galleries. Volunteers also assist with special events including Oregon's Birthday Celebration, Cherry Blossom Day, Asian and Pacific Islander Day, Multicultural Day, Oregon's Bounty, Holidays at the Capitol, and more. Volunteers may help with a single event or provide ongoing assistance. To learn more visit: https://www.oregonlegislature.gov/capitolhistorygateway/Pages/Visitor-Services-Volunteer.aspx
