DVCC is seeking volunteers to accompany clients to c ivil court proceedings. As a volunteer, you r presence will help clients feel supported and less isolated as they navigate the legal system. Volunteer Court Accompaniment take s place at the Stamford Superior Court.
What you’ll do:
Meet clients at the Court
Provide emotional support and empathy to clients
Explain the process and what to expect of the day to clients
Provide company to clients so that they are not alone
Training:
A 20 hour domestic violence training at the DVCC office
A specialized training with our legal department
Visits to the Stamford Superior Court before volunteering takes place
Frequency
Civil court proceedings are typically scheduled at short notice, usually within a week of the court date . V olunteers receive accompaniment requests, and based on their availability , can accept or decline each opportunity. This role requires flexibility within weekday business hours to accommodate the schedule of the court, from 9 to 5 on weekdays.

Kind, personable, supportive
Able to handle difficult subjects and emotions that may arise , while also maintaining boundaries
Able to connect with people on a personal level
Can relay information and is committed to learning and training
A knowledge of the civil court system is not required , but a major plus!

Description
Since 1980, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) has provided counseling and advocacy services for victims of domestic violence and their children. DVCC is the only state-certified agency recognized by the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV) serving the communities of Norwalk, Stamford, New Canaan, Darien, Westport, Weston and Wilton.
DVCC’s role is to help those experiencing any level of domestic violence and assist them in building a safer environment for the well-being of themselves and their families. Our services include housing and financial advocacy, legal advocacy, trauma-informed individual and group counseling, and emergency safe housing. All victim services are free and confidential.
