The gardening/agriculture volunteer will support the Antique Gas and Steam Engine Museum by working under direction of the director to maintain and expand our planted areas. This includes caring for any or all areas of the community garden, raised bed planters, in ground gardens and agriculture fields. Interest in maintaining surrounding marsh habitat and native planting is a plus. We have several roses that require attention as well as fruit trees, succulents and seasonal wheat, sorghum, and pumpkin fields.

Additional opportunites include providing public education about horticulture, agriculture and related topics. Interested volunteers may coordinate and conduct classes, educational talks and/or outreach events.

All hand tools are provided on site.

Sustainable practices are preferred.

Time Commitment: Prefer 8 hours per month

Grounds are open 10AM-4PM Tuesday -Sunday

Mission Statement

The Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum, a non-profit corporation, collects, preserves and displays examples of mechanical ingenuity and crafts associated with the early days of the American farm and rural community. The Museum offers educational and recreational opportunities to the public through exhibits, demonstrations, activities and programs displaying the art of invention fulfilling necessity. Acknowledging the past provides direction for the future.

Description

Located on 55 acres the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum has been in Vista since 1976. Over that period our Museum has grown to become one of the premier educational and recreational facilities in North San Diego County.

Our Museum's collection focuses on 1849 through the early 1960’s era with exhibits that actively demonstrate early American life and technology. Unique from traditional Museums, our collection is maintained in operating condition and used during a wide range of events held here on the grounds.

Since its incorporation the Antique Gas & Steam Engine Museum has become a parent organization to several other groups including:

  • California Blacksmith Association: Vista Forge
  • N’ Scale Short Track Railroad
  • Palomar Handweavers at AGSEM
  • West Coast Clock & Watch Museum
