ORGANIZATION: LA Compost



Volunteer with LA Compost to gain hands-on experience working alongside their knowledgable compost managers and transform trash into nutrient-rich compost.

Why: Save food scraps from the landfill and help us turn them into finished compost. Educate your friends and family on community compost after learning from our team members.

Who: LA Compost works to restore lost connections to the soil and to one another.

What to Expect:

Roll up your sleeves and dive into a variety of engaging activities--whether it's managing a three-bin system, tending to a compost pile, sifting finished compost, or exploring a mix of everything. There's something for everyone, from beginners to seasoned pros!

Plus, our Compost Hubs are situated in LA County's most cherished green spaces: community gardens, urban farms, and beautiful parks. Join passionate community composters, learn to turn food scraps into rich compost, and connect with the local food system.

What's Required:

AGE REQUIREMENT: This volunteer activity is best suited for volunteers aged 16 and up. Minors under the age of 16 should come accompanied by a parent or guardian unless other arrangements are made. Contact ashleigh@lacompost.org for more information.

As a community-based non-profit, we are dedicated to ensuring a healthy transition where food is never wasted but instead returned to the soil for the next cycle of life. In collaboration with a diverse network of partners throughout LA County, we create spaces for local compost access and engagement, promote restorative practices, and empower our community. If you have been dreaming about getting involved in community composting, we invite you to volunteer with us.
