United Planet ( www.unitedplanet.org) seeks a diverse set of board members with experience in business, non-profits or international relations to join our Board of Directors. Our Board is a volunteer board, and members dedicate their expertise, time and money to support United Planet and its mission. We are looking for mission-aligned individuals with strong collaboration, communication, implementation, and strategic skills and expertise in one or more of the following areas: fundraising, marketing, finance or HR.

An ideal Board member is a committed, passionate, and respected individual who brings expertise, diversity, and influence; actively participates as a working member; represents the organization with dedication; and balances developing its health with promoting its mission and programs.

Board Member Responsibilities:

1. Understand and Support the Mission - Familiarize yourself with United Planet’s values, policies, programs, and community needs while serving as an advocate and ambassador to promote its mission.
2. Commit to Philanthropy and Fundraising - This includes a significant personal financial contribution, as well as assisting in fundraising by leveraging connections and networks to meet board-established goals.
3. Provide Strategic Oversight - Serve as a trusted advisor to the CEO, approve the annual budget, evaluate organizational performance, and ensure financial objectives align with its mission.
4. Engage in Governance and Compliance - Uphold legal, financial, and fiduciary responsibilities while supporting CEO evaluations and maintaining ethical standards.
5. Participate in Board Meetings and Committees - Prepare for and attend meetings, review materials in advance, and actively engage in at least one committee or task force. Commit to a renewable three-year and make time for your board responsibilities.
6. Strengthen Leadership and Team - Assist in recruiting new board members and provide expertise, connections, and resources to enhance the organization’s work.
7. Honor Commitments and Organizational Policies - Adhere to conflict of interest and confidentiality agreements while fulfilling board responsibilities in a timely manner.
8. Foster Learning and Inclusivity - Seek opportunities to understand the community served and respect the voices and experiences of all stakeholders.
