Position Summary: USS is seeking an experienced and passionate Volunteer Grant Writer to support the organization’s fundraising efforts. The Grant Writer will be responsible for researching grant opportunities, drafting compelling proposals, and submitting applications to secure funding for USS programs and operations. This role is vital to ensuring USS can continue to expand its reach and impact.
This volunteer position is critical to the sustainability and growth of USS and has the potential to transition into a paid role based on performance and funding availability.
This is a Remote position and reports to the Founder/President & CEO.
Time Commitment:
15-30 hours per week, with flexibility based on deadlines and workload.
Willingness to participate in occasional virtual or in-person meetings.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Grant Research & Writing
Research and identify grant opportunities that align with USS’s mission and programs.
Develop, draft, and edit grant proposals, letters of intent, and funding requests.
Collaborate with USS leadership to gather necessary information and data for grant applications.
2. Grant Submission & Follow-Up
Ensure timely submission of grant applications and related documentation.
Maintain a detailed calendar of grant deadlines, submission timelines, and reporting requirements.
Follow up with funding organizations regarding application status and additional information as needed.
3. Program and Impact Alignment
Work closely with program leads and leadership to understand USS initiatives and funding priorities.
Ensure proposals accurately reflect the organization’s goals, outcomes, and potential impact.
4. Reporting & Records Management
Track grant progress, outcomes, and deliverables in coordination with the team.
Maintain organized records of submitted and pending grants.
Assist with grant reporting requirements by compiling and submitting reports to funders.
Qualifications:
Required:
Passion for USS’s mission and a desire to contribute to meaningful change.
Strong writing and editing skills with a proven ability to craft persuasive narratives.
Experience researching and writing successful grant proposals (professional, volunteer, or academic).
Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and time-management skills.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Preferred:
Previous experience working with nonprofits or fundraising teams.
Familiarity with grant databases and fundraising tools.
Knowledge of program evaluation and metrics reporting.

USS was uplifted by Mr. Lee C. Wallace, USS Founder/President & CEO, who opened his home to build a community of support. USS is committed to transforming lives and creating pathways to stability. USS has consistently worked to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals and families in need. Through dedication, innovation, and strategic action, we have achieved significant milestones, including serving over 800 individuals during the COVID pandemic and over 1,000 individuals post-COVID. Despite challenges, we remain steadfast in our commitment to providing essential support, ensuring that the needs of those we serve remain our top priority.
