Àbulę is more than an online school and homeschool co-op - it’s a movement. (https://abule.education/) We are a proudly multicultural, community-driven educational space providing accessible, high-quality learning for students in grades 6-12. As a program of the Floating Freedom Foundation, a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we are committed to educational equity, social justice, and nurturing the next generation of changemakers.

We’re seeking dedicated board members who believe that education is one of the most powerful tools for liberation and community transformation.

Who We’re Looking For

You do not need to be an educator to serve. We welcome individuals from a wide range of fields - education, law, business, technology, arts, finance, activism, and beyond - who can bring wisdom, skills, and heart to the table.

We are especially eager to hear from those who:

  • Are passionate about equity and access in education

  • Bring lived experience or professional expertise in historically marginalized communities

  • Have knowledge in nonprofit governance, fundraising, strategic planning, or community organizing

  • Can commit time, energy, and insight to help Àbulę thrive

Mission Statement

The Floating Freedom Foundation is dedicated to advancing education and literacy for underserved communities, inspired by the legacy of The Floating Freedom School. We believe in the transformative power of knowledge and work to create accessible, inclusive learning opportunities that empower individuals to break cycles of inequity. Through educational programs, resource distribution, and advocacy, we strive to make lifelong learning a reality for all.

Description

The Floating Freedom Foundation Inc. is a nonprofit organization committed to promoting literacy and educational access, particularly for marginalized and historically underserved communities. Named in honor of The Floating Freedom School-a secret school on a steamboat that provided education to enslaved individuals-the foundation carries forward its legacy of resilience and empowerment through learning.

Our initiatives focus on:

  • Literacy Programs: Providing books, tutoring, and reading initiatives to foster a love for learning.
  • Educational Access: Supporting students and educators with free or low-cost educational resources.
  • Community Empowerment: Partnering with grassroots organizations to bring educational equity to communities in need.

At Floating Freedom, we believe that education is a fundamental right, not a privilege. By addressing educational disparities and advocating for literacy, we strive to uplift individuals and communities-one book, one lesson, and one opportunity at a time.
