Our current treasurer is relocating, so we are actively seeking a new volunteer treasurer for the local Bozeman SCORE chapter. This position can be as just a treasurer, but ideally, the ideal individual will also want to be a SCORE mentor as well. This is a fully volunteer role, and candidates must be in the Bozeman community. Aside from monthly meetings, there are no in-person work hour requirements. Below is an overview of the Treasurer’s responsibilities, based on SCORE’s official guidance: 1. Chapter Expert on the Chapter Accounting Policies and Procedures and be familiar with the SCORE Operating Manual ensuring volunteer and chapter financial compliance; 2. Oversee the chapter's finances - cash position, plan to utilize federal grant funds, performance vs. budget analysis and reporting, and review coding of invoices sent to HQ for payment including "restricted" vs. "unrestricted" use of funds; 3. Utilize the Intacct system to meet the reporting needs of our chapter; 4. Maintain ongoing communications with the HQ accounting staff to ensure smooth relations between SCORE and local vendors and suppliers. For our chapter, the ongoing time commitment is minimal - generating the monthly reports in Intacct (about 30 minutes each month) and working with our chapter chair on the annual budget at fiscal year end (a couple hours depending on discussions). Outside of the ongoing reports, you will also need to assist with submitting occasional bills for payment to Accounting.
More about being a Mentor:
A SCORE mentor is an adviser who helps individuals and small businesses reach their goals. Mentors provide free business advice and education to aspiring entrepreneurs and existing business owners.
Business mentors are needed now more than ever as entrepreneurs are working tirelessly to stay open during the pandemic. As a mentor, you’ll help clients solve problems, make businesses more efficient, and assist with developing long-term business plans.
Additionally, you may discover new sources of insight and knowledge to help your own business and leadership style. Teaching others how to manage people or projects, along with illustrating ways to succeed in other aspects of business, could inspire you to continue with your own professional growth-all of this while helping your local community.
The ideal mentor is empathetic, flexible, and loves connecting people to the right resources. Mentors often have significant experience within their field, excellent communication skills, and the ability to dedicate a few hours a week.
