Chica Project is hosting a cultural festival to celebrate the culture, flavor, and beauty of our community. The event will include musical performances, dance lessons, arts and crafts, and free food for all participants.
We need your help to make the Celebration of Cultures Festival a success - with a variety of volunteer roles to choose from!
Volunteers must be 18+ and available on June 26th between 12pm-6pm.

Rooted in our culturally affirming, intergenerational, and asset based framework, we support chicas* on a lifelong journey of community and self discovery to build collective power. *chica - what two women call each other affectionately, in support of solidarity and sisterhood. We are working towards a world where women, girls, and all people experiencing oppression at the intersection of race, ethnicity, and gender have the opportunity to rise to their full potential.
Description
Chica Project’s programs are designed to center, affirm, and empower:
- Black, Latina, & Indigenous identities, we also welcome Asian, Arab, Pacific Islander, & Multiracial Women of Color (WOC);
- Anyone who identifies as girl/woman, regardless of gender assigned at birth. We also welcome people who identify as femme, non-binary, or gender nonconforming who feel aligned with experiences of girlhood and womanhood;
- Youth beginning at 11 years old, young, and adult women; and
- Those whose sense of identity and belonging has been shaped by immigrant or diaspora experiences.
Nurys Camargo launched Chica Project in 2011 to respond to the need for a Boston program that would enhance the assets and respond to the needs of resource-restricted but culturally-rich, young Latinas and young Women of Color (ages 11-18) by connecting them with successful, multicultural professional women. Recognized by First Lady Michelle Obama as a high-quality youth development program, our history includes serving over 3,000 participants through mentoring, career exploration, college readiness, and racial justice focused public health programming. In 2023, to make programming even more inclusive, we used Strategic Planning to redefine our mission and focus even more intentionally on equity and inclusivity.
Today, Chica Project is in its strongest operational, financial, and programmatic position, as we embark on a major growth trajectory.
