Interp and Visitor Services Volunteer - Pine Island (Homestead, FL)- RV- Winter

Please Note: This is a full-time, 32-40 a week position from the end of November to the beginning of April. Couples may apply. The location of this volunteer opportunity is based out of the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center near the Homestead, FL entrance of the park

The volunteers will go through interpretive training and will independently research, develop and present interpretive programs such as talks, walks, bicycle tours and various other programs about park resources. Out of all the presentations the district offers, each volunteer will be only required to develop and present two types of presentations throughout the course of the winter. Interpretive programs often cover complex natural, historical, and cultural themes. Programs employ appropriate interpretive techniques and devices geared to the characteristics and interests of audiences.

Volunteer must be able to independently operate the visitor center to provide visitor information and orientation. Coordinates with other NPS offices, concessionaires, and essential cooperators. Provides interpretive and informational support services such as cleaning and maintaining equipment, maintaining bulletin boards, clerical work, and keeping statistical records.

When schedule will provide roving on trails or wildlife viewing areas to contact visitors, addressing orientation, logistical, and resource-based questions.

Shifts are typically 8 hours long, and the volunteer will work 32-40 hours a week, which may include weekends and holidays. A valid driver's license is required. Working conditions include standing for long periods of time. Training will be provided by the park.

Volunteers will have free trailer pads and hook ups for RV. Free laundry facilities are available in the housing area. All housing is located one mile from work site - the Ernest F. Coe Visitor Center. All cost for housing is paid by NPS at no expense to the volunteer.


Prior to the selection process, all volunteer applicants will be interviewed and will have the opportunity to speak with the volunteer supervisor. This will give applicants the opportunity to ask questions that are specific to their situation and needs.
