Most people don't realize that the National Park Service performs active science at the park!


SEC (Science Explorer’s Club) volunteers introduce park visitors to the science performed at Cabrillo National Monument through fun hands-on activities! By teaching visitors of all backgrounds how to collect data and make scientific observations, they encourage environmental stewardship of natural resources and appreciation for national parks. Activity topics include tidepool monitoring, bird anatomy, herpetology, geology/fossils, and more!


DUTIES

  • Engage visitors with interactive science-related activities and modules.
  • Track and report the number of interpretive contacts per shifts.
  • Maintain proper upkeep of the SEC cart and supplies.
  • Ensure a safe environment for staff, volunteers, and the public by adhering to safety and health regulations.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Volunteers under age 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
  • Be reliable and committed to at least 2 volunteer hours per month.
