Abode of Liberation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit boarding house for adults with intellectual disabilities, is seeking a skilled volunteer with experience in QuickBooks or nonprofit bookkeeping to serve as our Treasurer and join our Board of Directors.

Our organization provides a loving, inclusive home for adults with intellectual disabilities in the Northern Shenandoah Valley, combining person-centered care with community engagement and the companionship of forever-rescued animals. We operate on a consumer-directed care model and are in a critical growth phase with upcoming funder site visits and strategic development goals.

This volunteer role involves:

Setting up and reviewing our QuickBooks nonprofit system

Generating basic monthly reports (P&L, balance sheet)

Advising the Executive Director on simple financial processes

Participating in semi-annual board meetings (virtually)

Providing oversight to help ensure strong financial stewardship

This opportunity is fully remote, and time commitment is flexible, perfect for a retiree, CPA, bookkeeper, or nonprofit finance enthusiast who wants to make a real difference.

Description

Abode of Liberation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit boarding house based in Front Royal, Virginia, offering a warm, inclusive, and family-style living environment for adults with intellectual disabilities. Founded to challenge the limitations of traditional group homes, our model empowers residents through consumer-directed care, supported independence, and meaningful community integration. Our home is also a sanctuary for rescued animals: cats, dogs, and even mini pigs, who provide companionship and therapeutic value to our residents. We offer daily support services, community volunteering opportunities (like Special Olympics and animal transport missions), and a strong sense of belonging that traditional institutional models often lack. Since our founding, we’ve grown entirely through grassroots support, volunteerism, and small grants. Now, as we prepare for expanded partnerships and site visits from major funders, we’re building out our board to reflect the same professionalism and heart that fuels our mission.
