Join our team as an American Red Cross Hydrologist!
The purpose of this position is to support a pilot project with the Indonesian Red Cross exploring the use of low-cost, open source river flow monitoring stations to improve local data availability for disaster readiness and anticipatory action.
Responsibilities include - Analyze precipitation, streamflow, monitoring station networks, and climate data using statistical and geospatial tools, set up operational discharge monitoring of rivers and develop hydrologic models from bathymetric profiles and data captured by OpenRiverCam stations - https://pypi.org/project/pyopenrivercam/, prepare short reports, presentations, and/or visualizations as needed for project stakeholders to explain hydrology concepts for non-hydrologists, and collaborate in the design and authoring of a peer-reviewed study investigating some element of the project implementation.
An average of 4 hours per week and qualifications include 2+ years of experience in hydrology, water resources management, or a related field, experience utilizing hydrologic principles and modeling tools, proficiency in GIS software (e.g., QGIS), hydrologic models, and data analysis tools, comfort working as part of a fully remote team, submission of a resume and willingness to comply with current public health and American Red Cross policies.
