Volunteers will meet at City Relief Mobilization Center at 8AM at 35 Hazel Street, NJ, 07011 for a briefing and to assist with all outreach preparations. Volunteers will travel with staff to Paterson, NJ.
Outreach preparation includes, but is not limited to, tasks such as preparing soup and drinks, packing the bus with bread and hygiene kits, and assisting with facility-related tasks.
*The City Relief base is located behind the Grace City Church building. Once you’re at the back of the church, you'll find our base and bus waiting for you.

Volunteers will join together with City Relief staff and our community partners to throw a block party and create a welcoming environment!
Volunteers assist with a variety of activities such as
Setting up tables, chairs, and tents on the street.
Pass out soup, bread, & beverages, and offer socks (& more!) to visitors at outreach.
Maintain a high level of cleanliness at and around the outreach.
Travel in teams around the nearby area to invite guests to the outreach.
Assist with site clean up and breakdown of tables, chairs, and tents.
Volunteers are encouraged to personally interact, through conversation, a shared meal, and even prayer with the people we serve. As a volunteer, you will help connect guests to City Relief staff for a Life Care Visit; a conversation where hope and tailored resources are offered.
At the completion of outreach, volunteers will travel back to the City Relief Base to assist with a clean-up party to get the base kitchen and vehicles ready for the next day of outreach.

These connections change people’s lives. Our Approach: Visiting the same eight locations weekly, we provide a safe place to welcome our guests, share a meal, and discuss solutions to issues they may be facing.

History
In 1989, City Relief was founded in New York City by Richard + Dixie Galloway. For over 34 years, we've helped transform the lives of those experiencing homelessness & poverty. Today, we foster inclusive communities and create a network of care to assist people as they rebuild their lives.
Impact
In 2022 we served 61,187 Guests by providing 47,686 Meals, and 4,320 Personalized Action Plans, alongside our amazing Volunteers who served 9,891 hours with City Relief!
We mobilize over 2,000 volunteers a year - and whether it's your first time or your hundredth time, you have something unique to bring to the table. Volunteers transform lives, and in the process are transformed themselves. Our volunteers are beacons of hope and connection to hurting and isolated people.
