Join us Saturday, June 14th as we tackle some invasive wintercreepers. We will be pulling out this ground cover vine to preserve the health of the ecosystems within Kirkwood Park. Meet us in the parking lot next to the water tower in Kirkwood Park and we’ll head over together to a nature trail behind the water tower. No experience is necessary, our park staff will help you identify wintercreepers and instruct you on proper handling and disposal of them.
Wintercreeper is an invasive plant that grows on the ground and eventually climbs up trees, smothering other plants while it grows. It deprives other plants of sunlight, water, and nutrients, eventually killing off our native species. But with your help we can pull it out and keep our parks healthy!
Volunteers are encouraged to bring water, sun protection, and closed toe shoes. LONG PANTS ARE HIGHLY ENCOURAGED TO PROTECT FROM POISON IVY AND TICKS! Volunteers are also eligible for a perk of their choosing: tickets to a KPAC show or a day pass to the aquatic center, ice rink, or tennis courts.
