Join Young Readers Society in making reading more accessible and enjoyable for children in underserved communities. We’re looking for volunteers to help us assemble reading kits that include journals, bookmarks, and other reading accessories designed to support and inspire young readers.

These kits are donated to community organizations and schools that serve youth with limited access to books and educational resources. As a volunteer, you’ll help put together meaningful materials that encourage a love of reading and support literacy development.

This is a great opportunity for individuals or groups who care about education, equity, and making a direct impact-no special skills required, just attention to detail and a willingness to help.

What You’ll Do:

  • Assemble reading kits using provided materials

  • Organize and pack journals, bookmarks, and accessories

  • Help prepare kits for delivery

Be part of a hands-on effort to support young readers and promote literacy where it’s needed most. We’d love to have you on our team!

About Young Readers' Society

Location:

71 Hamilton Terrace, London, London NW8 9QX, GB

Mission Statement

The mission of the Young Readers Society is to inspire a lifelong love of reading in children and to advance literacy as a pathway to empowerment, especially in underprivileged and underserved communities. We believe that access to books and stories should not be a privilege, but a right for every child, regardless of their socioeconomic background or geographic location. Our commitment is rooted in the belief that reading opens doors to imagination, learning, and opportunity. Through engaging reading sessions and distributing books to local organizations, we work to break down barriers to literacy and create joyful experiences that encourage growth, empathy, and confidence. By placing books in the hands of children who need them most, we aim to build a more equitable and inspired future for all.

Description

The Young Readers Society has made meaningful strides in promoting literacy by partnering with a London primary school to support students through weekly reading sessions. We have also extended our outreach by donating children’s books to hospitals and homeless shelters across London, ensuring that young people facing difficult circumstances still have access to books. Our work has begun to reach global communities as well, with a growing initiative to send books to schools in under-resourced areas internationally. In addition to these efforts, we regularly host reading sessions and share weekly content on our website that encourages families to make reading part of their everyday lives. We are currently seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help lead storytime sessions, create and post engaging reading-related content, assist with organizing and distributing donated books, and support our outreach efforts to new schools and community centers. Whether you enjoy reading with children, managing logistics, or amplifying our mission through social media, your involvement can help bring the joy of reading to children who need it most.
