About Us
BCAUSEICAN is a 501(c)3 organization. We are on a mission to provide programs and services to underserved communities; our passion is to reach and teach children so that they can thrive, strive, and arrive. The leading program is the BCAUSEICANCODE curriculum, which provides instruction in coding concepts, terminology, and skills to begin the art of coding for grades K-12. We currently focus on schools in Washington, DC, Maryland, and Virginia (the DMV as it is known to locals).
Role Overview
The Grant Writer Assistant Volunteer will play a vital role in supporting BCAUSEICAN’s fundraising efforts and donor engagement initiatives. This position involves assisting in the development and execution of grant opportunities and writing for potential funders. This volunteer role reports directly to the Executive Director and requires a commitment of approximately 10 to 15 hours per month.
Selected candidates must be able to pass a criminal background check. This is a volunteer position. We are seeking high school or college students with an interest in grant wrting.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Assist in researching and identifying potential grant opportunities
Maintain a comprehensive database of potential funders and grant deadlines
Support the preparation and submission of grant applications
Collaborate with team members to gather necessary programmatic and financial information for applications and reports
Proofread grant applications for clarity, grammar, and spelling
Ensure all grants and reports are submitted by the specified deadlines
Assist in the preparation of reports to funders
Stay informed about funding trends and changes in grant-making organizations
Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience as a Grant Writer Assistant or similar role
Familiarity with the grant application process
Excellent research and organizational skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel
Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
Bachelor’s degree in English, Communication, or related field

Description
BCAUSEICAN conducts computer literacy and financial literacy classes. The computer literacy classes focuses on developing the techniques and skills to support STEM by introducing students to the basics of coding. The computer literacy classes target youth from 6-12. The financial literacy classes focuses on stock market education. The students learn the terminology and concepts of the stock market and eventually learn to simulate day trading. The financial literacy classes target middle school to high school students. We have been conducting classes for 2 years in the SHAW Community in NW Washington, DC.
