As a Companionship Hospice Volunteer, you will provide emotional support and companionship to hospice patients, helping to ease feelings of loneliness and isolation during their end-of-life journey. Your presence brings comfort, connection, and dignity to individuals facing life-limiting illness.

Key Responsibilities:

• Spend one-on-one time with hospice patients through conversation, reading aloud, playing music, watching TV, or simply sitting quietly together.

• Offer companionship and emotional support tailored to each patient’s preferences and needs.

• Provide respite for family members or caregivers by staying with the patient for short periods.

• Communicate regularly with hospice staff to share updates and ensure patient comfort.

• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospice policies and guidelines.

Qualifications:

• Compassionate, dependable, and emotionally mature.

• Strong listening skills and ability to be fully present.

• Comfortable with silence, grief, and the realities of end-of-life care.

• Willing to complete hospice volunteer training, including orientation on boundaries and communication.

• Must be respectful of all cultural, spiritual, and personal beliefs.

Commitment:

• Typically 1-2 hours per visit, with a flexible schedule based on availability and patient needs.

• Visits take place in patient homes, assisted living communities, or hospice facilities.

• A 6-month commitment is preferred.
