As a Spiritual Support Hospice Volunteer, you will provide compassionate, non-denominational spiritual presence and support to hospice patients and their families. Whether through quiet companionship, prayer, reading, or simply listening, you will help meet the emotional and spiritual needs of those facing end-of-life, regardless of faith background or belief system.
Key Responsibilities:
Offer a calm, compassionate presence to patients and families, with sensitivity to their spiritual and emotional needs.
Engage in reflective conversations, prayer, guided readings, or meditation, as requested.
Provide support that respects diverse spiritual, religious, or cultural traditions.
Collaborate with chaplains or other spiritual care providers, referring complex needs when appropriate.
Document visits according to hospice policy while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Qualifications:
Deep sense of empathy, active listening skills, and emotional maturity.
Comfortable discussing topics related to meaning, hope, grief, and end-of-life.
Respectful and open-minded toward diverse beliefs and practices.
Prior experience in pastoral care, spiritual direction, or peer support is helpful but not required.
Commitment:
1 Hour/Week/Patient
Visits may take place in patient homes, care facilities, or hospice centers.
A commitment of 6 months or more is encouraged.
