As a Pet Support Hospice Volunteer, you and your well-behaved, friendly pet will offer comfort, companionship, and emotional support to hospice patients and their families. This role focuses on providing a calming presence and a sense of normalcy through animal interaction, helping to ease anxiety and bring moments of joy during a difficult time.
Key Responsibilities:
Visit patients in their homes, care facilities, or hospice centers with your pet.
Offer companionship, emotional support, and gentle interaction with your pet (petting, sitting nearby, etc.).
Follow all hospice policies, including infection control, confidentiality, and safety guidelines.
Qualifications:
A calm, friendly, and well-socialized pet (dogs, cats, or other suitable animals).
Strong interpersonal and listening skills.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Must complete basic hospice volunteer training (no therapy animal certification required).
Up-to-date veterinary records and proof of vaccinations for the pet.
Commitment:
Flexible schedule, typically 1-4 hours per week.
Minimum commitment of 6 months preferred.
