Mission Statement

At Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute (MRCI), our mission is to protect Madagascar’s unique ecosystems and support the sustainable development of local communities through research, education, and volunteer engagement. We aim to empower individuals from around the world to contribute meaningfully to conservation and community projects while fostering cultural exchange, environmental stewardship, and global awareness.

Description

Madagascar Research and Conservation Institute (MRCI) is a government-approved organization based on the island of Nosy Komba, Madagascar. Established in 2013, MRCI offers a range of volunteer programs focused on marine conservation, forest conservation, English teaching, community development, turtle monitoring, and rural medical assistance.

Volunteers work alongside experienced staff and local partners to conduct ecological research, deliver educational support, improve infrastructure, and promote sustainable practices. Our base at Turtle Cove provides a unique and immersive experience in one of the world’s most biodiverse yet vulnerable environments.

Whether you're conducting underwater reef surveys, teaching in a village school, helping with community health outreach, or building water wells, MRCI offers an opportunity to make a real and lasting impact. Our programs are open to students, professionals, and travellers who are passionate about conservation, cultural exchange, and hands-on work in remote communities.
