Mission Statement

To drive lasting change by equipping communities especially youth, women, and children with the knowledge, skills, and resources they need for improved literacy, personal well-being, and economic self-sufficiency

Description

The Centre for Youth and Sustainable Development (CYSD) is a grassroots organization founded in 2019. We work in the crisis-affected northwest and southwest regions of Cameroon. Our mission is to support displaced and vulnerable communities especially children and youth with education, livelihood, and humanitarian aid.
The ongoing conflict has destroyed schools and health centers in many rural areas. Children aged 5 to 17 have no access to basic education. Most can't read or write, leading to high dropout rates. This has caused more teenage pregnancies, gender-based violence, and drug abuse among young people.
Girls and women suffer the most. In some places, they use grass to manage their menstrual cycle because they lack sanitary pads. Pregnant women have no access to antenatal care. Many give birth in unsafe, unhygienic conditions.
We address these challenges by building temporary learning spaces, training teachers, and distributing learning materials. We run youth clubs that educate teens about leadership, health, and their rights. We also support community farming and small businesses to reduce poverty.
At CYSD, we believe every child deserves to learn. Every woman deserves safe care. And every community deserves hope.
