Symptone is transforming medical education to ensure accurate diagnosis across all skin tones. Founded by a woman of color who experienced firsthand the consequences of diagnostic gaps, our nonprofit creates educational resources showing how conditions present on darker skin, trains medical educators to use these materials effectively, and measures success by improved diagnostic accuracy across diverse populations.
Position Overview:
We're seeking an education specialist to develop curriculum and instructional materials that effectively teach medical students to recognize and diagnose conditions across all skin tones. This pivotal role will shape how our educational content is structured, delivered, and assessed for impact.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design curriculum framework for teaching diagnosis across diverse skin tones
- Develop educational methodologies that improve diagnostic recognition and accuracy
- Create assessment tools to measure learning outcomes and program effectiveness
- Produce ambassador program materials, workshop curricula, and faculty guides
- Collaborate with our Medical Director to translate clinical expertise into effective teaching tools
- Coordinate with our Technology Lead to optimize digital learning experiences
Qualifications:
- Experience in medical education, curriculum development, or instructional design
- Understanding of effective teaching methodologies, particularly for visual diagnosis
- Background in creating educational assessment tools
- Excellent writing and content development skills
- Commitment to health equity and education innovation
- 5-8 hours available monthly for this role

Symptone is a nonprofit working to improve how medical conditions are taught and diagnosed on all skin tones-especially darker skin. It was founded by a woman of color who personally experienced how medical training often overlooks how conditions appear on non-white skin. Our mission is to make sure future doctors are trained to recognize conditions on every skin tone. We create visual resources, train educators to use them, and track how this improves care for patients of color. We’re building a community of medical educators, students, and health advocates committed to closing the diagnostic gap. By changing how healthcare professionals are trained, we’re helping to create a system where skin tone doesn’t determine the quality of care. Together, we can make healthcare more accurate, fair, and inclusive for all.
