Symptone is a nonprofit organization dedicated to ensuring medical students learn to recognize and diagnose conditions on all skin tones, so patients of color receive accurate and timely medical care. We create educational materials showing how diseases appear on darker skin, train medical educators to use these materials effectively, and measure success by how well new doctors can diagnose conditions across the spectrum of skin tones.
Our mission: To eliminate delays in diagnosis that patients of color often face by transforming medical education.

Symptone was founded by a woman of color who experienced firsthand the consequences of this educational gap. After struggling with a medical condition that took an extended time to diagnose because she couldn't find images of the condition on people who looked like her, she established Symptone to ensure others wouldn't face similar delays in care. This personal experience fuels her commitment to transforming how medical conditions are taught and visualized across all skin tones. Symptone is committed to building a diverse advisory board that represents the communities we serve. We strongly encourage applications from professionals of color and those with lived experience relevant to our mission.

Mission Statement
Symptone exists to transform medical education so that every doctor can accurately diagnose conditions on all skin tones, ensuring patients of color receive timely and effective care.
Description
Symptone is a nonprofit working to improve how medical conditions are taught and diagnosed on all skin tones-especially darker skin. It was founded by a woman of color who personally experienced how medical training often overlooks how conditions appear on non-white skin. Our mission is to make sure future doctors are trained to recognize conditions on every skin tone. We create visual resources, train educators to use them, and track how this improves care for patients of color. We’re building a community of medical educators, students, and health advocates committed to closing the diagnostic gap. By changing how healthcare professionals are trained, we’re helping to create a system where skin tone doesn’t determine the quality of care. Together, we can make healthcare more accurate, fair, and inclusive for all.
