ORGANIZATION: THE DRAGONFLY PROJECT

The Dragonfly Project is seeking volunteers to serve primarily in virtual roles. We are specifically looking for volunteers with grant-writing experience, fundraising experience, event-planning experience, social media and communications experience. We are also looking for volunteers to help with our Adopt-A-State Program, where volunteers research obituaries and identify families that may benefit from receiving a Dragonfly Project packet which includes a card, The Dragonfly Story Poem and a dragonfly keychain - which provide hope and comfort to people who have lost someone close to them, especially unexpectedly. The hours for these positions could be from a few hours per month to 5-7 on average, but this is very flexible. We are based in the Minneapolis area but would welcome virtual volunteers from anywhere in the USA.

Mission Statement

The Dragonfly Project is organized exclusively for charitable purposes. The purpose of this nonprofit is to offer a message of hope to those who are grieving and to strengthen individuals, families and grieving communities through outreach.

Description

The Dragonfly Project is a registered 501( c )(3) non-profit that sends condolence cards carrying a message of hope to people who are grieving. Our organization consists of volunteers who look up names in obituaries and help put together and mail packets out to people who are grieving; usually 3 to 6 months after the death has occurred. Each packet contains a condolence card, a copy of the dragonfly story printed on the inside cover and a dragonfly keychain.

Each year, thousands of dragonfly packets are sent throughout the United States and other countries to individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one. Each dragonfly packet, which contains a condolence card, the dragonfly story and a dragonfly keychain, costs $4.50 to make and distribute. The Dragonfly Project is operated by volunteers and a board of directors. This includes a focus on military outreach and also a school outreach program for schools who have experienced losses through violence.
