It is vitally important, when using public funds to deliver outcomes, to create and run a nonprofit that has a clear vision and an organizational framework / policies and procedures that get the job done. We also believe in supporting and assisting in the development of our volunteers.
Our shop Black shop local research campaign aims to answer some important questions. We have already calculated that if an additional 10% of the local Black community in Mobile AL diverts an additional $1.00 / day to local Black owned businesses, it would generate an additional Gross income of $5,438,500 in the first year. Some questions are:
- Can a local community significantly increase the gross income of local Black Owned Businesses?
- How can an increase in shopping at local Black owned businesses be sustained in the long term?
- At the end of the project, will the local community want to continue with the shop Black shop local program?
- Can the research be helpful to other local communities across the US and enable them to create additional intergenerational wealth?
Are you:
- A retired executive who wants to use your knowledge and experience to create sustainable change?
- An accountant, business administrator or project manager who can help us with performance and/or compliance?
- Someone that loves to engage with their local community to help them create their own version of economic justice?
- Someone that loves to engage with and support / mentor volunteers?
The Network is entirely volunteer run, we have already: created a website; started a nonprofit; started a 12 month shop Black shop local research campaign and on May 28th 2025, we will be holding our inaugral AGM.
Our mission is: ambitious, engaging, challenging work that aims to deliver tangible results that can be replicated across the US.
If you want to be a local (Mobile AL) or virtual volunteer, we would love to hear from you

Mission Statement
My name is Netesha. I am the founder and CEO of the US Black Business Network (the Network) which is a 501(c)3. Why does the Network exist: I believe that there is no greater gift for our children, families and communities than our support for their right to self-determination. Those who do not want organized, influential, wealthy African American Communities, perpetuate social, political and economic systems that restrict our right to self-determination. Important research published by McKinsey and Company - June 2021 stated: Black households still spend less than white households, and current growth rates would not erase this disparity for 100 years in the absence of faster gains in wages and wealth. I do not think that waiting another 100 years for social and economic justice is reasonable, do you?
Description
What we do:
We see our role as Servant Leaders who sit at your table listening to and supporting individuals, families and communities who want to work together to increase intergenerational wealth and community cohesion. The Network is focusing on one root causes rather than ameliorating the symptoms.
Progress to date:
The Network was granted 501(c)3 status in Jul 2024 We are mindful that faith is taking the first step even when you don’t see the whole staircase. Nevertheless, in February 2025, we established a project called shop Black shop local that encourages shoppers to shop at local Black owned businesses. This included setting up a website resource that lists over 100 businesses and allows shoppers to participate in research that provides empirical evidence about the effectiveness of the project.
