Are you an emerging writer or communications professional looking to gain hands-on experience while making a meaningful impact? TORT Co. is seeking a motivated Volunteer Writer to join our Fundraising and Growth Strategy Team. This is a remote, flexible, and collaborative role ideal for someone passionate about mental health, gaming, and storytelling for social good.

About TORT Co

TORT Co. is a nonprofit gaming studio and impact incubator working at the intersection of mental health and digital experience. We build immersive, narrative-driven games and tools that promote emotional resilience, self-expression, and healing-particularly for underserved and youth communities. Our mission is to reduce barriers to mental wellness and create safe, connected spaces through innovation.

Role Overview

As a Volunteer Writer, you will contribute to both our external communications and fundraising materials, helping shape the voice and mission of TORT Co. across platforms. You’ll collaborate closely with our leadership and growth teams on:

  • Social media writing (Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter/X, etc.)

  • University and foundation outreach proposals

  • Grant applications and pitch documents

  • Newsletter and blog content

  • Content strategy brainstorming and writing support

This is a great opportunity for recent grads, early-career writers, or students seeking experience in nonprofit communications, fundraising, and social impact storytelling.

Qualifications
  • Strong writing and editing skills (storytelling and concise, persuasive communication)

  • Interest in mental health, gaming, or nonprofit innovation

  • Familiarity with social media platforms (especially LinkedIn, IG)

  • Bonus: Basic understanding of grants or nonprofit fundraising

  • Enthusiasm for learning and working collaboratively in a team setting

  • Reliable, responsive, and deadline-oriented
