Visitor Center Assistance

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Tumacácori National Historical Park (NHP) sits at a cultural crossroads in the Santa Cruz River valley. Here O’odham, Yaqui, and Apache people met and mingled with European Jesuit and Franciscan missionaries, settlers, and soldiers, sometimes in conflict and sometimes in cooperation. Follow the timeworn paths and discover stories that connect us to enduring relationships, vibrant cultures, and traditions of long ago.

Visitors to Tumacácori NHP enter the park through the visitor center. Staffed by National Park Service employees and volunteers, the visitor center and bookstore provide orientation and a wealth of information. Visitor center staff and volunteers are available to answer questions and to help visitors plan their time in the park and their stay in the area.

Visitor Center assistants provide support for a minimum of one 4-8 hour shift once per week, year-round. We are currently looking for volunteers every day, with priority need Saturdays and Sundays.

Support includes:

  • Helping staff at the visitor center front desk greeting visitors
  • Processing sales on the bookstore cash register
  • Answering visitor questions, providing information, orientation, and interpretation of park resources and surrounding area
  • Providing Junior Ranger activities
  • Answering phone inquiries, transfers phone calls, takes tour reservations
  • Working on clerical projects such as folding site bulletins and preparing mailings

Requirements:

  • Ability to operate a point-of-sale computer/cash register
  • Learning the park’s relevant cultural and natural history
  • Willingness to attend volunteer training sessions
  • Wearing the National Park Service Volunteers-in-Parks (VIP) uniform

As representatives of the National Park Service, volunteers must adhere to the policies, procedures, and code of conduct as outlined in the volunteer handbook provided during training.
