Position Overview:
The monument located at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial was constructed in 1912 to 1915. The National Park Service acquired management of the park in 1930s. The column was architecturally inspired after a Greek Doric. This monument commemorates those who fought, wounded, and died during the Battle of Lake Erie, and celebrates the lasting peace between United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States that followed the War of 1812.
Responsibilities:
- Aid Park staff by operating an elevator and provide safety information to groups of eight to and from the observation deck
- Assist Park staff with monitoring visitors on observation deck 317 feet above Lake Erie to maintain safety standards
- Inform visitors of safety reminders when observing visitors disobeying safety regulations
- Provide basic historical, natural, and geological information to park visitors
- Confirm timed tickets to verify entire of visitors to observation deck in rotunda
Qualifications:
- Ability to operate an elevator for 15 - 30 minutes in an hour span
- Ability to perform physical labor such as lifting, squatting, bending, crouching, and standing for extended periods of time (3 hours plus)
- Ability to safely use and operate park equipment such as elevator doors and elevator
- Ability and willingness to volunteer outside, with others and if applicable on weekends
- Ability to rotate positions from observation deck to elevator to rotunda
- Ability to carry and operate a radio to communicate with others
