Life in the Reserve goes with the rythm of the forest. We work as a family and therefore caring of each other is the center of our daily life. This is why we orginize together the activities in our weekly assembly so everyone agrees on the goals we want to accomplish.
The activities in which our volunteers participate are:
- Walks to collect seeds and seedlings
- Nursery maintenance (watering, weeding, transplanting, seed germination)
- Monitoring of water source in recovery (measurement of water table, temperature and
relative humidity)
- Participation in food sovereignty objectives (planting, irrigation, harvesting and processing
of organic foods)
- Participation in planting days inside and outside the Reserve
- Support in the maintenance of nurseries in the Viveros Hermanos network of communities
- Monitoring of fauna and birds
- Bio-construction and maintenance of the Reserve's infrastructure
- Maintenance and signage of the Reserve's trails
In addition to working hours, all of us who live in the reserve must participate in the kitchen shifts and in the cleaning and maintenance of the infrastructure that is there for our comfort and also help carry the purchased food from the entrance of the reserve to the house.

Mission Statement
The Bachaqueros Biological Station Foundation is dedicated to scientific research, conservation, and environmental education to preserve the region's unique biodiversity. Our mission is to advance knowledge of local ecosystems, promote sustainable practices, and raise environmental awareness in surrounding communities. We work tirelessly to protect native flora and fauna, support high-quality scientific research, and empower future generations to become passionate advocates for our natural environment.
Description
We are keepers of a special space of life in the Tropical Dry Forest of the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, which is also home of the magical jaguar. To protect and restore this important ecosystem we are planting endangered tree species, we do environmental education activities to help people understand how can humans live in harmony within nature. To do this, we work not only through biological but also with cultural and spiritual knowledge, such as music, arts, yoga, bioconstruction, healing, among others. We believe that all knowledge is relevant and helpful when it comes to reconfigure human relationship with all life forms and earth as a living system. This is why we hope receiving people with all sort of abilities!
