Looking for a meaningful way to make a difference in young lives? Become a volunteer with our children's group sessions at our safe houses!

As a volunteer, you'll bring warmth and support to children during their healing journey. Your caring presence helps create a safe space where kids can express themselves and grow through guided activities.

What you'll do:

  • Share your kindness and attention with children during group sessions

  • Sup port our counselors in c ultiva t ing a warm and welcom ing environment

  • Assist with activities and supervisio n

  • Be part of a team making a genuine difference

  • Occasionally provide children with an alternative to the group activity in a one-on-one setting

T ime commitment

  • Just 1.5 hours every other week

  • Weeknight sessions around 6pm

  • Perfect for those with busy schedules but full hearts

What we are looking for :

  • People who enjoy being active and playful-our sessions often include movement activities and games that require keeping up with energetic kids!

  • People with a cheery disposition and a positive outlook!

  • Bilingual volunteers who can help us connect with children of all backgrounds - not required , but a major plus!

To join our volunteer community :

  • Be 16 years or older

  • Complete our 20-hour domestic violence training

  • Pass a background check

  • Sign a confidentiality agreement

Our counseling team will provide guidance and support throughout your volunteer journey. You'll never be alone - you'll be part of a compassionate community working together.

DVCC's mission is to prevent and eliminate domestic violence by providing comprehensive services, support, and education. Our work is aimed at helping individuals build safe lives for themselves and their families while fostering awareness and prevention within the community.

Description

Since 1980, the Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) has provided counseling and advocacy services for victims of domestic violence and their children. DVCC is the only state-certified agency recognized by the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CCADV) serving the communities of Norwalk, Stamford, New Canaan, Darien, Westport, Weston and Wilton.  

DVCC’s role is to help those experiencing any level of domestic violence and assist them in building a safer environment for the well-being of themselves and their families. Our services include housing and financial advocacy, legal advocacy, trauma-informed individual and group counseling, and emergency safe housing. All victim services are free and confidential.
