Position Overview

We are seeking a talented and mission-driven Software Developer to join our team as a volunteer. The Software Developer will play a crucial role in building, maintaining, and optimizing CSA’s digital platforms, ensuring they are accessible, secure, and user-friendly. This position offers the opportunity to apply technical expertise in a way that directly improves lives by increasing access to essential community resources.

Key Responsibilities

Software Development & Implementation

• Design, develop, and deploy software solutions that enhance CSA’s digital platforms.
• Build new features and improve the functionality of existing applications to better serve users.
• Ensure that CSA’s technology solutions are scalable, efficient, and aligned with organizational goals.

Frontend & Backend Development

• Develop responsive and accessible user interfaces using modern frontend frameworks (e.g., React, Vue.js, Angular).
• Work on backend development using server-side technologies (e.g., Node.js, Python, Ruby on Rails, or PHP).
• Optimize database structures and API integrations for seamless data management and performance.

Technical Troubleshooting & Maintenance

• Identify and resolve software bugs, performance issues, and security vulnerabilities.
• Conduct regular system updates and maintenance to ensure reliability and stability.
• Provide technical support and collaborate with other developers to improve system functionality.

Collaboration & Cross-Functional Coordination

• Work closely with product managers, UI/UX designers, and other team members to translate requirements into functional applications.
• Collaborate with nonprofit stakeholders to understand user needs and ensure solutions meet community requirements.
• Contribute to code reviews and development best practices to maintain high-quality standards.

Testing & Quality Assurance

• Implement automated and manual testing procedures to ensure the robustness of CSA’s platforms.
• Conduct usability tests and gather feedback to improve user experience.
• Debug and optimize code for better performance and efficiency.

Security & Compliance

• Ensure compliance with data privacy and security best practices, including HIPAA and GDPR where applicable.
• Implement authentication and encryption measures to protect sensitive user data.
• Stay updated on emerging security threats and apply preventive measures.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in software development with proficiency in frontend and backend technologies.
• Strong understanding of modern web frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, or Vue.js) and backend languages (e.g., Node.js, Python, PHP, Ruby on Rails).
• Experience with cloud-based services such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
• Familiarity with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Understanding of API development, integrations, and microservices architecture.
• Knowledge of security best practices and compliance standards for web applications.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams.
• Passion for technology-driven social impact and a commitment to serving vulnerable communities.
