The Teen Leadership Council (TLC) was launched in 2014 by the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden (DABS) Volunteer Staff. The program has evolved into a leadership opportunity for high school students by building interpersonal and leadership skills through volunteer service in a fun, hands-on environment.
The mission of the Teen Leadership Council is to develop a committed team of teen leaders who dedicate their time and efforts to support the Dallas Arboretum. Program members volunteer throughout the school year (August- May). They go above and beyond leading volunteers and creating a bridge between other teens within their school and community with the Dallas Arboretum.
Active Teen Leadership Council members are required to:
* Serve as a leader to other student volunteers at the Dallas Arboretum
* Attend at least 3 out of 4 general meetings each school year
* Organize two group days (one day, one evening) for Holiday Village with 10-20 volunteers
* Individually volunteer a total of 16 hours (outside of Holiday Group Days): Children’s Garden
Program Assistant, OmniGlobe, Special Projects, alternative Group Day, Team Building, etc.
* Assist Volunteer Staff during individual volunteer shifts
* Actively promote the Dallas Arboretum and its volunteer opportunities
