Recruiting Organization: Garces Foundation

The Garces Foundation is looking for innovative volunteer teachers and classroom assistants to teach adults English through our IDIOMA program this summer from July 14 - September 19, 2025. Our 10-week course is offered in-person in South Philadelphia at the BOK Building along with a few online class offerings.

The IDIOMA program now enrolls nearly 200 learners per session. We offer five levels of English classes: beginning, high beginning, low intermediate, intermediate, and high intermediate. 90% of our learners are native Spanish speakers, and the large majority are employed in the restaurant and/or construction industries.

In addition to English classes, we also offer learners the option to enroll in additional workshops with topics ranging from restaurant professional development, digital literacy, financial literacy, health topics, nutrition, and citizenship.

Basic Info / Requirements:

• 10 week teaching commitment (July 14 - September 19, 2025).
• Must attend 1 pre-session training (Saturday, June 21, from 10-11 AM)
• Approximately 2-3 hours a week (1-2 classes a week for 90 min/class)
• We offer classes that meet both in the morning and in the evening during the week.
• Curriculum is provided.
• Spanish language skills are NOT required can be useful.

Basic Qualifications:

• bachelor's degree (or currently working on one)
• advanced English language proficiency
• strong interpersonal communication skills
• a desire to support the immigrant community of Philadelphia

Preferred Qualifications:

• BS or MS in education (or closely related field)
• TESOL, TEFL, or ESL certification OR experience teaching another language
• experience using Zoom and Google Applications (Meet, Classroom, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc.)
• experience learning a second or foreign language and cultural understanding of the Latino community at large
