United Safe Environment Creators (USEC) is a refugee-led community-based organization operating in Kakuma Refugee Camp and Kalobeyei Settlement, Kenya. Our mission is to create a safe, inclusive, and empowered environment for refugees and host community members through four flagship programs: Education, Child Protection, Livelihoods, and Climate Change Resilience.

As part of our organizational growth, we are seeking a skilled volunteer to deliver a remote training aimed at strengthening our team’s capacity in proposal writing, budgeting, documentation, and impact communication. The training will equip staff with practical tools and strategies to develop compelling proposals, create realistic and donor-aligned budgets, maintain strong documentation practices, and effectively communicate the outcomes and impact of our work.

The ideal trainer should have proven experience in fundraising, grant writing, and nonprofit program reporting, particularly within the humanitarian or development context.

While this support can be provided remotely, we are also open and excited to host a volunteer in person in Kakuma/Kalobeyei, should they be interested and available for an immersive experience. (Note: we are not in a position to support volunteers financially during their stay.) We encourage those who can cater for their accommodation, meals, transport, etc.

Expected Outcomes:

  • · Enhanced skills in writing clear, structured, and persuasive proposals
  • · Improved capacity to develop accurate and donor-compliant budgets
  • · Strengthened documentation and reporting practices to support transparency and learning
  • · Increased confidence in communicating program impact to donors and stakeholders
  • · Clear action steps for applying new knowledge in upcoming funding opportunities

Description

United Safe Environment Creators is a grassroots, non-profit, community-based organization run by refugees in the Kakuma refugee camp. It started in 2015 and was registered under the Ministry of Labor, Social Security, and Service with reg. SCSDO/CBO/BO-201 and certificate no. 38613.
We are a group of dynamic and passionate refugees committed to creating a better future for ourselves and our communities. Our organization was founded in the Kakuma refugee camp in Kenya, and we are proud to be a community-based initiative that addresses crucial issues such as education, livelihood, and child protection. We collaborate with the Global Family Reunification Network (FRUN) to reconnect separated children with their families, ensuring every child has a safe, loving environment where they thrive. We have recently joined the UNHCR EHAGL Regional Community-Based Protection Network (R-CBPN) to improve the provision of basic protection and assistance services to vulnerable forcibly displaced populations and individuals affected by serious human rights violations
