Artist in Residence- Fine Art

Save to Favorites

ORGANIZATION: National Park Service

Jewel Cave National Monument is seeking an artist (fine art, illustration, other mediums) to create artwork and interpret our landscape above and below, providing programming for the public through their artwork. One piece, due on August 15th, will also be used for our Volunteer-in-Parks program 2025 appreciation item. The artist will be invited to visit Jewel Cave for two weeks with optional lodging provided (30hr/week to be eligible for housing) so that they might be familiarized with and inspired by the natural resource both below and above ground. Please visit www.nps.gov/jeca for more information about Jewel Cave and its 125 Years of Discovery.

July or early August availability preferred. This is an in-person only opportunity, with an option for remote work to finish the pieces when the 2 weeks are complete.

2 pieces of art will be donated by the artist to Jewel Cave National Monument to become part of the park's collection, therefore the art will become part of the public domain. Use of the art will be credited to the artist.

Our park partner, Black Hills Parks and Forest Association, will provide a stipend to help offset costs for board and art supplies.

To be eligible for housing, volunteer must commit to 30 hours per one week (remote volunteering included) as per federal policy. Housing is a potentially shared, furnished apartment.
