Ulysses S. Grant National Historic Site is seeking volunteers to provide excellent customer service to the visiting public including greeting and orienting visitors to a historic site averaging 45,000 annual visitors. Volunteers will work closely with rangers at the historic site and act as a wellspring of knowledge relating to Ulysses and Julia Grant, their historic home White Haven, and information regarding the Civil War, slavery, and the Reconstruction period.
Other duties include bookstore and federal recreation pass sales including operating a cash register and handling cash and credit card transactions, answering phones, transferring calls and taking messages, making general announcements in the visitor center including tour and film announcements, and assisting with group visits and special events. Volunteers are not required to lead interpretive tours but training can be provided for interested candidates. Uniforms are required and will be provided.
This is a great opportunity for retired persons looking to stay active in their community, or for college students looking to get work experience with the National Park Service.
Volunteer shifts are available any of the following days: Sunday mornings and Saturday afternoons. Preference will be given to applicants available to work during those days and times.
