We bring volunteers into the lives of children and youth in foster care in South Carolina, currently. We need more tutors willing to enter into the child's foster home weekly during the school year, to guide and encourage the child to academic accomplishments.
You don't need to be a brainiac in upper level calculus. You do need to be structured, consistent, and encouraging. Our vision is that SC is the first state where all children in foster care have their very own private tutor in their foster placement.

About FOSTERING GREAT IDEAS
Location:
321 PIMLICO RD, GREENVILLE, SC 29607, US
Mission Statement
Our mission is to find and develop volunteers who care deeply about the emotional well-being of children living in foster care, support these children with community developed solutions that address their concerns, and measure the positive impact on each child. Finally, we invite advocates into a larger, national network for mutual learning and policy development.
Description
Foster children feel anguish as their world and family are torn apart. We acknowledge their uncertainty and offer specific solutions that are healing, relational, and innovative. More specifically, if children move around in foster care, we provide luggage so they don’t move with garbage bags. When children live in separate foster placements from brothers and sisters, we host fun, engaging monthly visits to restore their sibling bonds. When parents begin to accept responsibility, we encourage their efforts with weekly meetings co-led by peers and focused on accountability. When children can't keep up academically because of underlying chaos, we provide volunteer tutors who meet with them in their foster homes weekly. When teenagers navigate foster care and prepare for young adulthood, we offer volunteer mentors and professional life coaches as their guides.
We also host statewide foster parent and foster youth support networks and build national awareness of need through our own foster care immersion training where participants become the child, parent, or caregiver, now hosted for 2-3k people annually.
