Are you a skilled grant writer with a passion for animals and community upliftment? The Society for Animals in Distress (SAID)-a trusted nonprofit with a 67-year legacy-is looking for a talented Grant Proposal Writer to help us unlock vital funding and expand our life-changing work.

About Us:

SAID provides accessible, professional veterinary care and humane education to underserved communities in South Africa. We believe in long-term solutions, empathy-based education, and breaking cycles of suffering-for both animals and the people who love them.

Despite decades of impact, our funding does not match the scale of our vision. That’s where you come in.

Your Role:

We’re seeking a proactive, detail-oriented grant writer to:

  • Identify and research relevant local and international grant opportunities.

  • Write compelling, tailored proposals that clearly communicate our mission, programs, and impact.

  • Support grant calendar management, applications, reporting, and relationship cultivation with funders.

  • Help us develop a sustainable funding pipeline to secure long-term organisational growth.

The Ideal Volunteer:
  • Experience in grant writing, fundraising, nonprofit development, or communications.

  • Strong research skills and the ability to match programs with potential funders.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and proposal structuring abilities.

  • Passionate about animal welfare, social equity, and making a measurable difference.

Why This Matters:

Your words can bring veterinary care to animals who would otherwise suffer, provide education that builds empathy in children, and fund community initiatives that improve lives across generations. This is your chance to use your expertise to build something that lasts.

Join us. Help fund hope.

Description

At the Society for Animals in Distress (SAID), we’re more than just a veterinary care provider-we’re a movement for change. Dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people alike, we bring professional veterinary care to pets and working animals in low- to no-income communities, ensuring they receive the help they deserve.

But our mission doesn’t stop there. We believe in building a kinder, more empathetic world from the ground up. That’s why we focus on educating foundation-phase children, planting the seeds of empathy and compassion for animals at an early age. By shaping young hearts and minds, we’re paving the way for a brighter future-one where care, respect, and responsibility define the relationship between humans and animals.

Powered by the generosity of donors, innovative income streams, our dedicated staff and, a passionate network of volunteers, SAID delivers life-changing services that create lasting impact. Every service we provide is guided by our commitment to excellence and tailored to the resources available, ensuring we maximize our ability to uplift both animals and the communities we serve.
