Are you a Marketing or Public Relations professional looking to use your skills to make a real impact? The Society for Animals in Distress (SAID) has been changing lives-animal and human-for 67 years, yet we remain one of South Africa’s best-kept secrets. We need your voice to help us change that.
About Us:SAID is a trusted and respected NPO delivering professional veterinary care, community education, and long-term solutions to animal suffering. Our work spans generations, yet our brand visibility doesn’t reflect our legacy or impact. We are ready to change that-and we need a communications champion to help us do it.
Your Role:As our volunteer Marketing & PR Lead, you’ll help us:
Develop a brand awareness strategy that resonates with both traditional and digital audiences.
Create engaging content that tells our powerful stories across media platforms.
Cultivate media relationships and help us secure press coverage.
Identify visibility opportunities, including partnerships, interviews, and campaigns.
Support the rollout of new projects, events, and fundraising drives with impactful messaging.
Background in marketing, communications, public relations, or journalism.
Strong understanding of brand storytelling and media outreach.
Passionate about animal welfare, community upliftment, and creating lasting change.
Able to think creatively and work independently within a mission-driven team.
You’ll be helping an organisation with a 67-year legacy finally step into the spotlight it deserves-and with it, help thousands more animals and communities who need us. Your work will lay the foundation for stronger partnerships, deeper donor relationships, and a South Africa where no animal suffers in silence.
Join us and be the voice behind our vision.

Description
At the Society for Animals in Distress (SAID), we’re more than just a veterinary care provider-we’re a movement for change. Dedicated to improving the lives of animals and people alike, we bring professional veterinary care to pets and working animals in low- to no-income communities, ensuring they receive the help they deserve.
But our mission doesn’t stop there. We believe in building a kinder, more empathetic world from the ground up. That’s why we focus on educating foundation-phase children, planting the seeds of empathy and compassion for animals at an early age. By shaping young hearts and minds, we’re paving the way for a brighter future-one where care, respect, and responsibility define the relationship between humans and animals.
Powered by the generosity of donors, innovative income streams, our dedicated staff and, a passionate network of volunteers, SAID delivers life-changing services that create lasting impact. Every service we provide is guided by our commitment to excellence and tailored to the resources available, ensuring we maximize our ability to uplift both animals and the communities we serve.
