At Shofruco, we have varies activities that we need our volunteers to engage in.
Currrently we need urgent volunteers to participate in School-Based Pads Distribution and Farming Support program for the Girl Child at Shofruco. This project aims to support the girl child in Rusinga Island by providing access to affordable, hygienic menstrual products through school-based pads distribution, while also empowering girls and their communities through sustainable farming initiatives. The dual approach addresses both immediate needs and long-term self-sufficiency, fostering confidence, health, and education retention among girls.
Objectives:
- Ensure girls have access to hygienic menstrual products to promote school attendance and participation.
- Empower girls with knowledge about menstrual health and hygiene.
- Promote sustainable farming practices to support the production of reusable pads or complementary income-generating activities.
- Foster community engagement and volunteer participation in education and farming activities.
Activities Volunteers Can Participate In:
1. Educational Workshops
- Conduct sessions for girls and teachers on menstrual health, hygiene practices, and confidence building.
- Facilitate discussions on breaking menstrual taboos and promoting open communication.
2. Distribution of Menstrual Pads
- Assist in organizing and distributing packaged pads to students during school visits.
- Educate girls on proper usage and disposal practices.
3. Farming Support and Training
- Participate in establishing and maintaining vegetable or flower farms as part of a sustainable income project.
- Conduct training sessions on sustainable farming techniques, crop management, and composting.
- Support planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting activities.
4. Community Engagement
- Organize awareness campaigns within the community to promote the importance of education, health, and sustainable farming.
- Encourage community members and parents to participate in farming initiatives and support girls’ education.
5. Resource Mobilization and Fundraising
- Assist in gathering materials, funding, or donations needed for the project.
- Support outreach efforts to attract more volunteers and partners.
