Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial Visitor Center:
The Visitor Center is located at the corner of Delaware Street and Bayview Ave. The Visitor Center serves as the hub for visitors to prepare to see the monument and the site. It features a 30-minute film that starts quarter till and past the hour, as well as brochures and informational pamphlets. Along with this, there is an exhibit featured in the area. The volunteer will assist the National Park Service Interpretation Division in the operation of the Centers. Help greet visitors and school groups, share information about the center and park, and answer the telephone. Each volunteer will assist for 4 hours weekly on a specific day of their choosing, Sunday to Saturday.
Position Description:
The Visitor Center Volunteer at Perry’s Victory and International Peace Memorial will be expected to
- Greet visitors while being welcoming and friendly
- Be available in the visitor center to answer visitor questions such as directions, park programs, and events
- Offer and provide a general introduction to the park’s film "The Battle of Lake Erie" and answer any questions
- Record visitor statistics to monitor attendance
- Assist visitor with purchasing merchandise and operate the cash register
- Stock brochures and tidy the information desk
- Share details about the visitor center and exhibit with visitors
Training:
Training for the position will consist of a shadowing shift of four hours with either the CVA or a Park Ranger.
Training shifts will consist of:
- Eastern National cash register operations
- Answering phone calls
- Answering visitor questions
- Practicing using a visitor counter
- Radio operations
Uniform:
Uniform shirts/polos are provided for the volunteer. Khaki or dark pants to be provided by volunteer.
NOTE: Volunteers must be 18 years or older.
