Overview:

The Research and Policy Intern at Bantucola will play a crucial role in supporting the organization's mission to advocate for Black-owned businesses and address systemic issues such as gentrification and economic disparity. This position is ideal for students or early-career professionals interested in public policy, community development, and economic justice.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Research and Analysis:

    • Conduct research on economic challenges faced by Black-owned businesses, including barriers to funding, regulatory hurdles, and market access.

    • Investigate the impact of gentrification on Black communities, with a focus on Pensacola and the Gulf Coast region.

    • Analyze data on economic disparities, business development trends, and policy measures affecting minority-owned businesses.

  2. Policy Development and Advocacy:

    • Assist in drafting policy recommendations to support Black entrepreneurs and combat gentrification.

    • Prepare reports and presentations summarizing research findings for internal use and public advocacy.

    • Support the development of initiatives that promote equitable economic policies at the local and state levels.

  3. Community Engagement and Outreach:

    • Collaborate with community stakeholders, business owners, and advocacy groups to gather insights and real-world experiences.

    • Help organize and participate in community meetings, policy forums, and discussions on economic justice.

    • Contribute to social media and written materials to educate the public on policy issues affecting Black businesses.

Skills and Qualifications:
  • Research & Analytical Skills: Ability to gather, assess, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Critical Thinking: Strong ability to connect research findings with real-world policy solutions.
  • Public Policy Knowledge: Familiarity with economic development, small business policies, or urban planning is a plus.
  • Writing & Communication: Strong writing skills for reports, articles, and policy briefs.
  • Attention to Detail: Precision in handling data and policy documents.
  • Self-Motivation & Initiative: Ability to work independently and propose new ideas.
